Dire Straits est un groupe britannique de rock créé à Deptford (borough londonien de Lewisham) durant l'été 1977 par Mark Knopfler (guitare solo et chant), son frère David Knopfler (guitare rythmique), John Illsley (basse) et Pick Withers (batterie).
