Biografia. Rakim Athelaston Mayers è nato a Harlem, nel distretto di Manhattan, il 3 ottobre 1988. Suo padre Adrian Mayers aveva origini barbadiane. Ha due sorelle e aveva un fratello maggiore, Ricky, ucciso in una sparatoria quando Mayers aveva dodici anni. Il suo nome, come quello della sorella Erika B, deriva dal duo hip hop Eric B. & Rakim.
