  4. Downing College follows the advice given by the University of Cambridge to applicants . Our admissions process is holistic: no single part is viewed in isolation or weighted more than another. We consider each application on its own merits and in its own context. This section provides more information about each part of the application process.

  5. The teaching of Downing’s undergraduates is shared between the University and the College. University faculties and departments hold lectures and practical classes, attended by students from all colleges. Much of the family's wealth was generated in the 17th century through the governmental career of his grandfather Sir George Downing, 1st Baronet, who served Cromwell and Charles II as well as building 10 Downing Street, the London home of the Prime Minister.
