Intended as a sendup of “new pop” at its dreariest, “Kidney Bingos” now sounds like one of the genre’s greatest triumphs. Ignore the Dadaist lyrics—a tic of Newman’s since his Harvest years—and focus on the exquisite guitar tone and melody, not to mention the surging coda, which begs to be retooled for the dance floor.
