Lord Harlech married Lady Margaret Ethel Gordon, daughter of Charles Gordon, 10th Marquess of Huntly, on 25 July 1881. William David Ormsby-Gore, 5th Baron Harlech KCMG PC DL (20 May 1918 – 26 January 1985), known as David Ormsby-Gore until June 1961 and as Sir David Ormsby-Gore from then until February 1964, was a British diplomat and Conservative politician. From 1950 until 1961, he was a member of the Member of Parliament. He died in a car crash in 1985.

Francis was the grandson of the fourth to hold the title Baron Harlech. But the eldest son of Francis’s uncle was killed in a car accident in the 1930s and the title, along with 8,000 acres of land on two estates in Shropshire and Gwynedd, passed to Francis’s father, after the death of William Ormsby-Gore, 4th Baron Harlech in 1964.
