Ever since I was a kid, I have loved Nyro's album Smile. One of the first albums to fully integrate jazz musicians into a pop record, I always felt it didn't get it's due. Every song is a story- it's a very personal document of an artist making a comeback, yet staying true to her ideals, as Laura always did.

Smile, released in January 1976, is the sixth studio album by Laura Nyro. This album marked a shift from the more intense and soulful style of her earlier work to a lighter, more accessible sound. Despite this change in direction, Nyro’s songwriting remained deeply personal and reflective.

Laura Nyro, pseudonimo di Laura Nigro (New York, 18 ottobre 1947 – Danbury, 8 aprile 1997), è stata una cantautrice, compositrice e pianista statunitense. ... Nel 1976 decide di ritornare in studio e registra Smile (pubblicato nello stesso anno), che coniuga brani originali a cover.
