Richard considered calling this album "Studio" (that is to say, not recorded in a living room), but opted instead for the phonetics lesson of "Hey Man!". He recorded the album at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles, in the very room where the Beach Boys used to work, and indeed, where they recorded "Pet Sounds".
Heyman fans know that RXH hasn’t been idle in the two-and-a-half decades since “Hey Man!” ’s release, and is, in fact, currently finishing up his eleventh album at his home studio The Kit Factory, as well as having contributed tunes, singing and drumming on the four releases by The Doughboys, of which he is a founding member.

The opening track, “Out of the Night,” is from ’73 and is an early attempt at hard rock, or dumb rock, depending on how you view these things.
