Nato a Springfield, in Pennsylvania, il 10 aprile 1971, è figlio d'arte: il nonno Joe e il padre John, noto come Papa John DeFrancesco, erano entrambi musicisti. His most recent recording, In the Key of the Universe (Mack Avenue, 2019) and his gig with Terell Stafford 's Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center provided the occasions for this interview.
