Robert "Pops" Popwell (born December 29, 1950, Daytona Beach, Florida, USA – died November 27, 2017, Lebanon, Tennessee, USA) was an American jazz-funk bass guitarist.
If ever a bassist was aptly monikered, it was the late, great Robert “Pops” Popwell! A compo ser, producer, session ace, anchor of the iconic Crusaders, and in-demand sideman – Pops popped, slapped, plucked, glissando-ed, and grooved with a soulful disposition that drew from jazz, funk, rock, blues, gospel and permutations thereof.

29 de nov. de 2017 · Aug 11, 2016. Hadn’t seen this mentioned on TB, yet so I’ll dive in - the great bassist Robert “Pops” Popwell died today at age 70. A name likely more recognized by older players, Pops was a very popular studio and live player in the 70’s and appeared on numerous projects with all the big name artists in his active years.

Robert Popwell. Actor: Hard to Hold. Robert Lee Popwell, is an American jazz fusion, smooth jazz bass guitarist and percussionist. Known as "Pops", he played with The Young Rascals , The Crusaders and the Macon Rhythm Section. The Young Rascals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame May 6, 1997. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005.
