El Instituto Pratt fue establecido el 17 de octubre de 1887 por Charles Pratt, el hijo de un carpintero de Massachusetts. Opera en los campus de Brooklyn, Manhattan y MWPI; desde donde imparte sus distintos programas a través de sus 4 escuelas: Arquitectura, Arte y Diseño, Información y Biblioteca de Ciencias y la Facultad de Artes Liberales y Ciencias.
