Steig was born in New York City. Every member of his family was involved in the arts, and so it was no surprise when he decided to become an artist.

[ 1] Seus livros mais conhecidos são Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, Abel's Island e Doctor De Soto. Ele também escreveu o livro Shrek!, que inspirou a popular série de filmes.
