John Edward Illsley (Leicester, 24 de junho de 1949) é um músico inglês, mais conhecido como baixista da banda de rock Dire Straits. Como um dos membros fundadores da banda, junto com os irmãos guitarristas Mark e David Knopfler , e o baterista Pick Withers , Illsley desempenhou um papel fundamental no desenvolvimento do som da banda.

In October 2008 John released Beautiful You, an album with Greg Pearle from Cunla and followed the release with a a short tour of Ireland. May 2010 saw the release of Streets of Heaven, with appearances from Mark Knopfler and a host of other musicians. The album was recorded at British Grove studios and produced by John and Guy Fletcher.
Introduced to lead singer and guitarist Mark Knopfler by Mark's brother, David Knopfler, Illsley was one of just two original band members remaining when it broke up in 1995.
