Etta Baker (1913-2006) was born in Collettesville, North Carolina, but moved to Chase City, Virginia, where she was raised from age three to her teenage years when the family returned to Collettesville. As a child she learned to play guitar and banjo from her father, Boone Reid, a highly accomplished musician.
