Popularly called The Maytals, this group emerged in 1962 as a vocal trio consisting of Frederick"Toots"Hibbert, Henry"Raleigh"Gordon and Nathaniel"Jerry"McCarthy, who sang on musical bases of The Skatalites. With several interruptions and modifications, the band, which was one of the precursors of the genre, is still giving some concerts.

Many of the tracks included on this, their first LP, were previously released as singles in Jamaica.

In Kingston, he met Henry "Raleigh" Gordon and Nathaniel "Jerry" McCarthy, forming a group whose early recordings were attributed to "The Flames" and, possibly, "The Vikings". Having renamed the group the Maytals, the vocal trio recorded their first album, "Never Grow Old - presenting the Maytals", for producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at Studio One in 1962-63.
