Marinera is a dance that originated in Peru in 1879 in honor of the great "marines", the Peruvian navy, who fought against Chile. ("Center for Traditional Music and Dance"). It was called “Zamacueca” when Peru was friends with Chile but after the war with this country, the named changed. This dance is combination of Spanish, and African dance.
