Steely Dan's gold-selling fifth studio album The Royal Scam, was produced by Gary Katz and was originally released by ABC Records in 1976. Katy Lied was another hit, as was 1976's The Royal Scam, which continued in the vein of its predecessor. On 1977's Aja, Steely Dan's sound became more polished and jazzy, as they hired jazz fusion artists like Wayne Shorter, Lee Ritenour, and the Crusaders as support.
By contrast, The Royal Scam didn’t beat around the bush, so the sting of defeat went unsalved. Or maybe it’s just that Katy Lied regains a sense of humor in a catalog fraught with seriousness. Whatever the reason, this is as light and lithesome a collection of songs as you’ll find in the Steely Dan gallery.
16 de sept. de 2022 · They started becoming interested in pushing the production envelope on Katy Lied, but they had some issues, so I doubt the UHQR would really stand above the original MSFL 33 1/3 version from the 1980s. Royal Scam was better produced, as was Aja, which I have also on the original MFSL release.
