Our 200+ acre sanctuary—currently home to 95 chimpanzees—is located in the beautiful forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We strive to provide an enriching physical and social environment, where the chimps can make choices about how they spend their days, build confidence, and exercise their natural skills and behaviors.

As a sanctuary, Chimp Haven is primarily focused on providing an enriching life at sanctuary for the chimps; therefore we are not open to the public year-round. However, throughout the year, Chimp Haven holds special events and opportunities for visitors to experience the sanctuary.

Project Chimps currently has a three-level volunteer program based on experience and interest. Level 1 or “red shirt” volunteers assist with all duties except chimpanzee care.
