An ambush predator, the animal buries its long body into an ocean bed composed of gravel, mud, or corals, where it waits for a stimulus to one of its five antennae, attacking when it senses prey.

While there is limited research into any of the relevant species, the Bobbit worm’s capability for survival was documented in an aquaculture enthusiast’s forum by an aquarium owner who noticed that something was eating his fish, and the stony coral, like it was crunching on cookies.
