Gallipoli (Gallipoli, 1981) é uma daquelas obras que já na primeira cena dão a entender que o filme valerá a pena. Archy Hamilton (muito bem interpretado por Mark Lee) é treinado pelo seu tio Jack (Bill Kerr), e sonha ser um corredor. Sonha mais pelo tio do que por si.
The very last shot of the film is stunning, as a horrible image is frozen on screen. Director Weir could have fallen into the sentimentality trap, but he was smart: the tragedy occurs, and the moment it does, the movie ends RIGHT THERE, leaving you with a haunting final image. A landmark war film, highly recommended.
As World War I rages, brave and youthful Australians Archy and Frank—both agile runners—become friends and enlist in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps together. They later find themselves part of the Dardanelles Campaign on the Gallipoli peninsula, a brutal eight-month conflict which pit the British and their allies against the Ottoman Empire and left over 500,000 men dead.
