Fortunately, the device, which was planted in the Senate chambers, didn’t injure anyone, but the damage wasn’t exactly insignificant. Windows shattered. Marble slabs fell from the walls.

This Ernst Kirchner artwork was made in 1910 and is currently in the Brücke Museum, Berlin (Germany) The set obeys an upward diagonal from the lower left corner to the upper right. The rhythm of the composition is essentially marked by soft, predominantly green color fields, bounded by marked contours.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (6 May 1880 – 15 June 1938) was a German expressionist painter and printmaker and one of the founders of the artists group Die Brücke or "The Bridge", a key group leading to the foundation of Expressionism in 20th-century art. He volunteered for army service in the First World War, but soon suffered a breakdown and was discharged.
