Alberto Giacometti az iskoláit helyben és Genfben végezte, az École des Beaux-Arts-ban és az École des Arts et Métiers-ben képzőművészetet tanult. 1920-ban elkísérte apját a XII. velencei biennáléra, majd Olaszországban maradt. Végiglátogatta a régi korok művészetét őrző helyeket, múzeumokat.

Alberto Giacometti nació en Borgonovo, Stampa, (Suiza) en 1901, en el seno de una familia de artistas. Su padre era Giovanni Giacometti, pintor neoimpresionista y su tío, Augusto Giacometti, también era pintor. Desde muy temprana edad demostró una habilidad especial para la escultura y la pintura.
