Humphry Davy was born on 17 December 1778 in Penzance in Cornwall. He was apprenticed to a surgeon and aged 19 went to Bristol to study science. There he investigated gases.

To support this work we delivered a singing workshop learning to sing folk songs from Africa and Iceland. There was such a fantastic energy in the room and the students really rose to the challenge, tackling some difficult pronunciation in the songs.
