David Sylvian may have been the most ambitious of the new-wave veterans. A clever and sensitive student of Riuychi Sakamoto, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel and, last but not least, Holger Czukay, Sylvian coined a form of "exotic ambient dance ballad" that bordered on the avantgarde and on progressive-rock.

David Sylvian, ursprungligen David Alan Batt, född 23 februari 1958 i Lewisham, London, är en brittisk musiker, och var sångare och låtskrivare i musikgruppen Japan. Han har släppt flera soloalbum och samarbetat med ett flertal musiker såsom Robert Fripp, Holger Czukay och Ruyichi Sakamoto. [1]

Released in June 1984 and peaking at No.4 on the UK Albums Chart, Sylvian obviously landed a prize catch. Recording had begun at Berlin’s Hansa studios in May 1983.
