Biografi. Kirk Hammett begynte å spille gitar som 15-åring da han arvet musikkinteressen fra broren og fikk sansen for Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin og UFO.. Han har gått i skole hos Joe Satriani hvor han lærte å spille blues, jazz og klassisk gitar.. Før Metallica startet Hammett bandet Exodus sammen med trommeslager Tom Hunting, men han forlot bandet til fordel for Metallica.
