After enlisting Gerry Conway to take Barlow’s place, Jethro Tull finally headed to Maison Rouge Studios, in Fulham, London, and recording sessions for The Broadsword And The Beast got underway.

He was replaced by Barriemore Barlow. After contributing to five albums with Jethro Tull, Hammond-Hammond retired from music in December 1975, with John Glascock taking his place. Dee Palmer (then known as David) was added to the group as a second keyboardist in 1977, having contributed orchestral arrangements to every studio album to date.
When Barriemore Barlow stepped into Tull to replace the newlywed Clive Bunker, the band was on the eve of their biggest worldwide success. Aqualung had broken open the floodgates, but Thick As A Brick, their next release and Barlow's first with the band, jettisoned Jethro Tull to superstar status.
