About Laura Nyro During the singer/songwriter movement in the late '60s and early '70s, Laura Nyro was one of the most celebrated tunesmiths of her day, penning soulful, literate songs that took the folky introspection of her peers and infused it with elements of soul, R&B, jazz, and gospel, giving them an emotional heat that set her apart.
At 23, Laura Nyro had already enjoyed a highly successful career as a singer-songwriter from the late 1960s. She composed a series of classic pop songs - "And When I Die," "Wedding Bell Blues," "Sweet Blindness," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "Save the Country," "Blowin' Away," "Eli's Comin'" - in her teens, all of which became hits for other artists at some point in the late '60s and early '70s.

But today, on October 18, we celebrate her birth and all the great music she gave us. Songs that will live on as her mark on the world.
