31 de may. de 1994 · Sonny Sharrock, a major figure in free-jazz guitar, died on Thursday at his home in Ossining, N.Y. He was 53. The cause was a heart attack, said his manager, Mary McGuire.
One of the most dynamic guitarists in avant-garde jazz, the former doo-wop singer Sonny Sharrock was inspired to switch to jazz guitar at the height of the 1960s free-jazz movement. Sharrock released a string of solo albums after several stints playing for heavyweights like Miles Davis and Pharaoh Sanders.

Sonny Sharrock. Warren Harding (Sonny) Sharrock ( Ossining, 27 augustus 1940 – aldaar, 25 mei 1994) was een Amerikaanse jazz -gitarist. Tevens was hij een van de eerste freejazz -gitaristen en voegde hij veel elementen van avant-garde en dissonantie toe aan zijn muziek.
