25 de ene. de 1972 · CLEVELAND, Jan. 24 (AP) —Maybelle Smith, a blues singer known as Big Maybelle, died yesterday in Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital after being intermittently ill for the last 18 months.

Big Maybelle zong reeds als kind in het kerkkoor van de Church of God in Christ. Op 9-jarige leeftijd won ze een zangconcours bij het Memphis Cotton Carnival.
