Deftones ist eine US-amerikanische Alternative-Metal-Band aus der kalifornischen Hauptstadt Sacramento, die 1988 gegründet wurde.Sie gelten neben Korn als Mitbegründer des Nu Metal, distanzierte sich im Laufe ihrer Karriere jedoch zunehmend von diesem Genre.Wegen ihrer Experimentierfreudigkeit werden die Deftones auch als „die Radiohead des Metal“ bezeichnet.
Sacramento’s Deftones spent most of the ‘90s feverishly navigating the fringes of alt-metal. By 2000’s White Pony, they had effectively seized that scene, drowning its rage and recklessness in a moody, muddy stew of experimental metal, shoegaze, post-hardcore, and ambient noise.
