Johannes Brahms fue un importante compositor y pianista alemán que perteneció al período romántico y que escribió una gran cantidad de sinfonías, conciertos, horas para piano, música de cámara, composiciones florales y canciones. Considerado como el gran maestro del estilo sinfónico y de la sonata durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.
Johannes Brahms (7. května 1833, Hamburk – 3. dubna 1897, Vídeň) byl německý hudební skladatel, klavírista a dirigent.Ve své tvorbě usiloval o syntézu starších kompozičních forem z období klasicismu a romantismu.Bývá považován za dovršitele díla Ludwiga van Beethovena.Prosadil se v oblasti symfonické hudby, komorní hudby, písňové tvorby a skladeb pro pěvecké sbory.

Brahms is a composer of two faces: he simultaneously looks back to the musical past and gazes forward into its future. Reviving and enlarging the classical principles of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, his music was once dismissed as conservative, a reaction against the ‘new music’ of Liszt and Wagner.
