Geoffrey Warnock was the Principal of Hertford College for seventeen years; he was also elected Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford in 1981. Warnock left a legacy to the college – and his and Mary’s commitment and dedication to Hertford’s future is the reason the legacy society has been named in their memory.

At Hertford we do not segregate our single occupancy accommodation by gender, so all staircases and corridors are mixed. From climate change and biodiversity to geopolitics and international development, studying Geography at Hertford will allow you to immerse yourself in a diverse subject and grapple with many pressing contemporary issues. Hertford College was established in the 1280s as Hart Hall and became a college in 1740 (although it was dissolved in 1816 and revived in 1874). The first Hertford College began life as Hart Hall or Aula Cervina , a small tenement bought by Elias de Hertford from Walter de Grendon.
