  2. Herbert Beerbohm Tree (1853-1917) was London's leading actor-manager in the Edwardian era. He built His Majesty's Theatre in London's Haymarket which opened in 1897, and his spectacular productions there became famous for their detailed and realistic settings.

  3. Iris Tree's second marriage was to the actor and ex-officer of the Austrian cavalry, Count Friedrich von Ledebur-Wicheln. Herbert Beerbohm Tree also had seven illegitimate children from his numerous affairs, among them the director Carol Reed and Peter Reed, whose son became the actor Oliver Reed (who played Bill Sikes in the musical Oliver!).

The production, with Tree in the title role and Laurence Irving as Iago, opened on 9 April 1912, and playerd for 43 performances. Artist Charles A. Buchel (1872-1950) had a 16 year working association with actor-manager Tree.
