  3. The Early Years. Alan was born in 1953 and brought up in the Finsbury area of North London, attending Westminster City Grammar School in Victoria in the late 1960's (from which he was expelled). He lived in Percival Street in Clerkenwell with his mother. One of his close friends was Bill Barret.
