  2. 1 de ene. de 2001 · At my side is a paperback copy of Book 4 of his war time memoirs and the photos in it are much crisper, even if page size is only slightly larger. With that out of the way, my recommendation is that this is better thought of as the war time memoires of a soldier, musician, and humorist and not as it tends to be sold as the early humor of the leader of BBC radio gag show, The Goon Squad.

  6. Specific to book four in his war time memoirs, Mussolini, his Part in my Downfall, we se what may be the end of the off hand sly private soldier humor and the beginning of the reality that war is not a laughing matter. The darker tone is there at the beginning. Note that previous titles have had Spike victorious over much gander names.

  7. Spike Milligan's fourth volume of war memoirs, Mussolini: His Part in My Downfall, spans the landing in Salerno, Italy, September 23, 1943, to his being invalided. While this is only four months, the text is nearly as long as the three earlier volumes together. Although the humorous writing is similar, there are no ersatz communiques and almost no sketches; the photographs are fewer and smaller.
