It caused quite a stir when the committee behind St. Catherine’s College picked a modernist – what’s more: a modernist from abroad – to design this new Oxford college. The project was to take on the mantle of the traditional Oxford Colleges, English university environments combining lecture halls and student rooms, some of them with buildings dating back to the 13th century.
As an English student, most of your working week will be spent reading and thinking. In this you will be helped by the College's excellent Sherlock Library (which has 24 hour access). The College attracts talented students from a wide range of countries, creating a vibrant, international postgraduate community: UK/Home = 152 students. International = 220 students. The 372 postgraduate students at Catz in 2022–23 were enrolled on a variety of courses: PhDs = 190 students. Master's = 135 students.
LUNCH. 13:30pm - 14:00pm. Lesson 5. 14:05pm - 15:05pm. Students are required to line-up in their year group playground at 8.35am in readiness for registration at 8.40am in Tutor time. A typical school week amounts to 32.5 hours for Year 7, 8, 9 and 10. Year 11 has a Lesson 6 every day between 15:05pm - 16:05pm.
St. Catharine's College will be interviewing remotely online. Our experience since 2020 is that this works well for all applicants - and we have plans in place to address any technical issues so you do not need to worry. We will send all applicants who are called for interview full instructions well in advance of their interview.
