Eric grew up in Batavia, IL and was an original member of notable bands Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Del-Lords and The Yayhoos. Ambel appeared with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in the 1981 movie Urgh! A Music War and also Jett's 2018 biopic Bad Reputation.
