Nick Lowe, perhaps best well known for producing the first 5 Elvis Costello albums and the debut album by The Damned, along with the song Cruel to Be Kind, is a bit overlooked in music spheres I feel. While critics adore this album, and rightfully so, Lowe is seemingly ignored by the general music listening crowd.

Its American counterpart, Pure Pop For Now People, was released as Columbia (US) JC 35329 , also in March 1978, and peaked at # 127 on the Billboard Album Chart in the following month.

24 de jul. de 2019 · Nick Lowe's 1978 solo debut has no right to be this great. Jesus of Cool (renamed Pure Pop for Now People in the US because we're idiots) was a non-stop barrage of catchy and inventive pop music (ok, the US title actually works, but still...), ranging from retro 50s stylings to power pop to new wave. Pretty much everything here works brilliantly, literally never a dull moment.
8 de feb. de 2008 · Lowe's work on Jesus of Cool tends to reflect back musically to the pre-psychedelic 1960s, but his lyrics reflect the pub-rock/punk-rock 1970s. It is an intriguing mix, and some of the tracks are classics in the minds of those of us who searched major state university area record stores for those early releases on Stiff.
