Die Bay City Rollers entstanden aus der zweiten oder dritten Band der Brüder Alan und Derek Longmuir. Besonders Schlagzeuger Derek bewies sich als sicherer Band-Leader und ergänzte seine Truppe um Eric Faulkner (1972, Gitarre), Les McKeown (1973, Gesang und Keyboards) sowie Stuart Wood (1974, Bass), den alle nur Woody nannten.
