Oliver Twist– História. A vida de Oliver Twist foi bastante infeliz desde seu nascimento. Sua mãe morreu ao dá-lo à luz numa casa de correção. Visto que sobreviveu, devido à alta taxa de mortalidade infantil da época, Oliver foi juntado ao resto dos meninos que morriam de fome na casa de correção, que passou a ser seu lar.
Oliver Twist is the story of a young orphan, Oliver, and his attempts to stay good in a society that refuses to help. Oliver is born in a workhouse, to a mother not known to anyone in the town. She dies right after giving birth to him, and he is sent to the parochial orphanage, where he and the other orphans are treated terribly and fed very little.

Oliver Twist; or The Parish Boy's Progress' es la segunda novela del autor inglés Charles Dickens. Se publicó originalmente como novela por entregas de aparición mensual (aproximadamente) en la revista Bentley's Miscellany, dirigida por el propio Dickens, entre febrero de 1837 y abril de 1839.
En definitiva, "Oliver Twist" es una historia de buenos y malos, donde se mezclan lo jovial, lo sentimental, lo lúgubre y lo trágico, con una eficacia narrativa que hace que todavía hoy en día los lectores continúen identificándose con los personajes, las situaciones y la crítica que plantea el autor.
