'Suffocating the Bloom' is the second full-length studio album by Echolyn. I never fully understood the Gentle Giant comparisons that Echolyn received, though there are a few songs in there discography that do indicate an influence of Gentle Giant, and those few songs are found on 'Suffocating the Bloom' and the following record, 'As the World.'
This entry is for a later reissue, probably somewhere around november 1995 (based on 11/95 appearing in the inner ring of the cd) and has an all black cd face. Recording for Suffocating The Bloom began at the William Bolten Dixon American Legion Post #10 on July 15, 1992. After two days there, the recording process moved to Echolyn Studio.
In 1992, the band released 'suffocating the bloom,' now generally regarded as an early '90s progressive rock classic. The album honed Echolyn's trademark two-and three-part harmonies with tight, contrapuntal instrumental musicianship, and featured the 25+ minute A Suite for the Everyman.
