Gordon Russell (1892 - 1980) was born in London. As a teenager he was inspired by the arts and crafts movement when he moved with his family to Broadway in the Cotswolds in 1904. After serving as an Officer in the First World War, he went on to establish himself as one of the most successful British furniture designers of the twentieth century.
