Gilles Francis Charles Bensimon wurde am 29. Februar 1944 im südfranzösischen Vic-sur-Cère geboren. Aufgrund einer schweren Lese- und Rechtschreibschwäche riet ihm seine Mutter, sich lieber künstlerisch auszudrücken – so, wie es ihm seine Künstlerfamilie bereits vormachte.
