26 de abr. de 2022 · On his seventh studio album, Tom Waits seems restless, rambling, and ready for a change. Heartattack and Vine, unlike his previous albums, comes off as much more rooted in its time, in spite of any retro stylings, and that time is 1980.While there are a couple of standout songs, for the most part, the album doesn’t feel like Waits to me, and not because of a change in style.

Tom Waits's hipster persona began to evaporate at the beginning of the '80s, but not before he released the transitional but eminently worthwhile Heartattack and Vine, which contained "On the Nickel," a Dickensian tale of street life, and "Jersey Girl," a song Bruce Springsteen gave a far wider airing to on his Live 1975-1985 box set.
