It is a gorgeous story, quaint and mesmerising and understated. Small things that I remember: Totto-chan had the kind of education/schooling that I'd have love as a child.

One of my daughter's and her seven year old enjoyed reading this together. My other daughter read Totto-Chan to her family of 7 as they drove on a long cross country trip.
