Hartford had just completed the album Hamilton Ironworks for Rounder when he succumbed to cancer in 2001; the label released it that same year and collaborated with Flying Fish for the reissue of 1987's Gum Tree Canoe as well. In 2002, Rounder Select assembled a compilation from the session that produced the 1971 classic Aereo-Plain.
