The Water Diviner is an ideal vehicle for Russell Crowe's directorial debut. It's patently a passion project for him and one that correlates well with his deep reverence for Australia. But despite it being a desirable instigation of his directing oeuvre, the final product is unfortunately a haphazard retelling of WWI Gallipoli containing flimsy elements and passages of insubstantiality.
