Another thing that implies to me that he's a bad teacher is his attitude to Malfoy. There is never any evidence that Malfoy is particularly skilled at potion making, yet he always gets the best grades. I'm convinced the only he reason he got top marks on his potions OWL is because Snape is "buddies" with Lucius. And that is poor teaching.

It really depends where you are teaching. I work in my divisions most difficult school as a 1st year teacher. I live in an area that is not saturated with jobs. You get offered a job, you take it. My pay - which is fairly decent in comparison - is not yet a living wage.
