Ommadawn ist das dritte Studioalbum von Mike Oldfield.Es ist wie seine Vorgänger Tubular Bells und Hergest Ridge ein weitgehend instrumentales Musikalbum, das von Oldfield im Sommer und Herbst 1975 komponiert, produziert und größtenteils selbst eingespielt wurde.Es erreichte kurz nach seiner Veröffentlichung Ende Oktober 1975 Platz vier der britischen Charts.
21 de oct. de 1975 · The pictures in the Boxed booklet, taken after Ommadawn was recorded, suggest that Mike had only one SG-Les Paul at the time, with a retrofitted nickel-plated adjustable bridge. As the 62 SG still had a nickel-plated adjustable bridge when Mike sold it, that would point to the 63 SG, with a brass bridge, being a later acquisition and the 62 being the guitar used on Ommadawn.

7 de oct. de 2018 · Mike Oldfield's "Ommadawn" only has one problem: It's not "Tubular bells", which not only was technically groundbreaking for its time, but also an astounding piece of music, "double speed guitar" included. "Ommadawn" doesn't strike the listener with an intro as memorable as "Tubuluar bells" had, but it does offer layers upon layers of depth.

1 de jun. de 2020 · Some people say, that Mike Oldfield went through a depressive phase in his life, while recording his third album Ommadawn in 1975. Maybe that was the reason for the certain atmosphere on this recording, filled up with Sehnsucht and longing tunes galore. "Part 1" starts in an Irish folk mood and gets more proggy at the end, while "Part 2" begins proggy and ends as almost pure folk.
