Fyre Festival was produced by entrepreneur Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule, who planned the concert as a way to celebrate the launch of Fyre, a music booking app. It was announced in December of 2016 that the festival would take place between April 28th-April 30th and May 5th-May 7th 2017.
