Según la leyenda, Erzsébet Báthory (Isabel, en castellano), fue una cruel asesina en serie obsesionada por la belleza, la cual utilizaba la sangre de sus jóvenes sirvientas y pupilas para mantenerse joven en una época en que una mujer de 44 años se acercaba peligrosamente a la ancianidad.
Según el relato, la condesa húngara Elizabeth Báthory (1560-1614) podría haber sido una maníaca asesina o un peón incriminado por familiares y enemigos deseosos de apoderarse de sus propiedades.
